I have always thought of Diabetes as a disease that only effected older adults. Recently flipping through a brochure at the Rite Aid near 56th & Market, I read something unnerving..."Diabetes is no longer considered an adult-only disease. Nearly one in every three children and teens... are at a serious risk factor for type 2 diabetes (Diabetes Health, Rite Aid P.3)." I thought to myself "What the hell.TYPE 2 DIABETES...CHILDREN AND TEENS...HUH??? One in every three persons wasn't supposed to be effected at this rate until 2050 ...right? Or whatever staggering fact it was that I put on the Xtreme Fitness flyer for the fundraiser November 24th, 2012 (I know that totally sound like a shameless plug but ironically it isn't). I re-read the line to make sure I read it properly. Oooh..."nearly one in every three children and teens is overweight or obese, a serious risk factor for type 2 diabetes". Though I read the statement too fast the first time... and missed a part... it still didn't make the statement any better :( So there I was, shopping around in Rite Aid trying to catch a sale and add points to my Rite Aid Plus Card and at the same time trying to figure out how we've grown so negligent in our diets to allow the disease to run rampant in our elderly... and our children and teens (...never ourselves though...'cause this could never happen to ourselves) I mean does processed and fast foods really taste so amazing that we've given ourselves away to a disease that causes the lose of limbs. Scary.I found myself standing in front of the beverages trying to make a wise selection (ie: pick something with little sugar that didn't taste like soda diluted with water). "Hmmm...let's trryyy...Muscle Milk". I have to honestly say that marketing was everything in this case...(though it did help that Muscle Milk had 24g of sugar less than the other protein snack had...I won't name names) I turned the bottle of Muscle Milk around and read
"YOUR BODY IS THE MOST AMAZING HIGH TECH PERFORMANCE MACHINE ON THE PLANET. TREAT IT LIKE ONE".
Wow. Yeah, it would be nice if it was just that simple. But...what if it was...just that simple. Just that simple to treat your body like exactly what it is. THE MOST AMAZING high tech performance machine on the planet. The trainers of Xtreme Fitness don't call themselves Team X for nothing. "X" represents all of what it takes to treat your mind, body, and soul the way it deserves. We don't just know what it takes, we take action, and build the kind of machine Muscle Milk is referring to. I believe that progress and true change first starts by training the mind and the body will follow. My experience is that it's easier to be consistent with working out after deciding and knowing for certain that staying fit was what I really wanted for my life. Making it a priority was key ... you know that. Team X of Xtreme Fitness Philadelphia has made an obligation to help others know that as well. Now this...is definitely a shameless plug moment...
